activando el plugnin de Shift Switcher del administrador de opciones compiz,
Al seleccionar "Key Binding"> "initiate de la opcion de monitor" se conjelo la maquina (ubuntu) durante unso 10 seg, devolviendome un reporte de error

Necesitas iniciar sesión en Unity 2D por ejemplo y desde ahí abrir el CompizConfig Settings Manager. Es un bug conocido que Unity se congele cuango activas o desactivas plugins de Compiz.
