My video does not play smoothly

Asked by Deepjaju

I tryed to open some .avi video files in Movie Player and it asked too search for codecs, it done so and eventually found and installed a few, and said it was ready to play. But when i play the files now i can see the video but if i make the window larger or to fullscreen the video goes black apart from if I drag the window around the screen then it flickers the image up. I changed my output to x11..now the video plays but its not smooth.. I can see the pixels.. Please help.. I downloaded all gstreamer packages and all codec packages. When i reduce the size of the window.. Its nice and smooth.. When i put it in full screen it becomes grainy again.. Same problem in mplayer also..

Are you using compiz ?

if so, Xv does not play nice with it. Unfortunately, Xv is the smoothest way to display video and should definitely be prefered over x11.

nonetheless, I am using Xv and compiz, and have no real problem watching video fullscreen.

try to switch to metacity to see if it helps.

by the way, what video card are you using ?

I"m using a 82852/855GM thinkpad g40 but I really want to use compiz effects with my video player. and view my videos in full screen nicely.

Can you help with this problem?
