Ubuntu 11.04 (64bit)- How to bring back the unity state as in fresh installation?

Asked by Anshul Kapoor

Here are the steps I performed and I am running into problems, the more i am doing it. I seek guidance :

1) Installed Ubuntu Natty 64 bit, a month back.
2) Read somewhere that with compiz, I tend to get desktop effects.
3) Installed compiz and configure it.
4) I released that the response time of graphics are little slow, therefore wanted to uninstall it with the intention of going back into previous state(Unity menu with no effects)
5) Uninstalled compiz

Problems
1) No unity menu appears I only see wallpaper with desktop icons, no task bar at the top as well.
2) If I start tty1, (alt+ctrl+1), and sudo apt-get install compiz followed by unity reset, something starts to happen and I can see the menu. however, the moment i log out from tty1 it returns to previous state.
3) so ran unity reset again, and configure compiz desktop manager via. settings wizard, however, problem remains the same.
4) Thus, created a profile in compiz with my settings and ran compiz -replace from tty1
5) I can see the prints on console and it stops, neither the menu is appearing, nor the taskbar.

Thanks for help

Press ALT+F2 and run:
