Dual monitor, seperate desktops in 11.04

Asked by Hallvar Helle

I', having trouble with Dual desktops in natty, I wish to run as seperate desktops, now i have to run ubuntu in "classica-ubuntu (no effects)" mode to hav a functional dual desktop setup, this seems to be related to compiz not supporting dual monitors as far as i have researched. Aslo worth mentioning dual desktop worked perfectly in 10.10.

I'm setting up my monitors trough nvidia-settings, I'v tried randr but it dosnt seems to detect my monitor. also its a pains me where the sun dont shine to use randr to manage my monitors when the nvidia-settings tool makes it so much easier. Ubuntu is about userfriendlyness aint it?

I'v tried both to report this as a bug, and to get help in the forums, but it just dosnt looks like its supposed to be anyomore.
Is the ability to run seperate desktops in multi monitor eviroments really gonna die when 10.10 comes? or are this gonna get fixed until then?

No not at all and to think so is frankly hilarious. Why would ANY distro want to remove dual monitor ability?

Does xrandr allow you to setup the screen ok?

This is all xrandr gives me

$ xrandr -q
xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
Screen 1: minimum 320 x 240, current 1680 x 1050, maximum 1680 x 1050
default connected 1680x1050+0+0 0mm x 0mm
   1680x1050 50.0* 51.0 52.0 53.0
   (more resulutions and refreshrates follows)

It just dosnt seems to be detecting my second monitor for some bizzare reason, And yes i'm glad that i'm not the onlyone who finds this a bit hilarious, togh it quite annoying for me.

I would be glad to run test and gather what ever informations i can, but i'm not much of a scripting or really technical when it comes to hardcore terminal usage. So i'f there are somone who are willing to help me trak down where the problem lie I would be extreamly grateful :)
