Ubuntu 11.04 Lunch bar and menu bar gone.

Asked by Kristjan Vool

So, I'm new to Linux in general. I installed Ubuntu 11.04 yesterday and played around a bit with Compiz, but as soon as I actually opened Compiz Manager of some sort the launch bar and the menu bar disappeared and i have no idea how to get them back. Restart does not help. And I'm rather worried that I have to reinstall Ubuntu. Therefore I hope you can help me restore my Ubuntu to it's former glory.

All I see is the wallpaper and that's it.

Thank you in advance

Kristjan

Is this with Unity, or with Classic Desktop? (I'm referring to the session type, which you can select after selecting or entering your username on the login screen.)

It sounds like this is a problem with gnome-panel. Is it bug 711378? (Also see the duplicate bugs, as some of their descriptions are more down-to-earth.)

     Try using Alt-F2 and typing in gnome-panel. Click on Run or press Enter.
     It is a bug, but there is a better link for it somewhere.

@Larry
Are you saying you think this is a bug, but *not* bug 711378?

Can you help with this problem?
