windows frame header disappear

Asked by Georges Portailler

I have two users declared on the system:
- basic user which works fine
- administrator user for which I cannot stabilize my session parameters which are lost whenever I quit the session. Not all the parameters are lost the 'windows frame header disappear' to get it back I need to play with the 'visual effect tab'.

This bad acting is the same with or without the proprietary NVIDIA driver.

This not of paramount importance, I guess it's just a matter of write access to a specific file but do not know which one.

Could you give it a hint?

Best Regards

Do you mean the top bar of the window? These are called window decorators and hold the close, minimise buttons etc. I suggest you install emerald and then press ALT+F2 and run:

emerald --replace

You can now grab a theme and replace the manager with what you like, there is a weird glitch with nvidia drivers and the window decorator and you sometimes need some xorg.conf extra options to make them stay.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I tried your trick without success !

Couldn't find the xorg.conf file, I found the .xsession_errors generated during my last connection, contents hereunder:

/etc/gdm/Xsession: Beginning session setup...
Setting IM through im-switch for locale=fr_FR.
Start IM through /etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/all_ALL linked to /etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/default.

I eventually reinstalled XORG and it did the trick.

Thanks for your help.
