Bad performance while using Compiz with nVidia Corporation G94 [GeForce 9600 GT] (rev a1)

Asked by Pevzi

Since Ubuntu 9.10 Compiz became to perform very badly — windows are moving jerkily, effects are too abrupt and performance in 3D applications is being reduced a lot. In 9.04 Compiz was working fine. Also, the current version of Kwin works fine too — effects are very smooth and running Kwin isn't reduce the 3D performance in other apps.
This problem exists at least on Nvidia and Intel video.

What happened with Compiz? Does anybody experience the same?

Compiz is a very bulky hunk of junk and some cards perform badly while using it.

Can you give the output of:

lspci | grep -i vga

Thanks

It seems that Compiz simply doesn't detect the monitor's refresh rate correctly. So my monitor works at 60 Hz, when compiz was working at 50.

Try this; it will install the nvidia drivers and configure them (at least, I think it should -- going on memory here):

sudo aptitude install nvidia-glx-180 nvidia-xconfig
sudo nvidia-xconfig
sudo reboot

Can you help with this problem?
