i can confirm this issue on a 4 monitor setup, nvidia, ubuntu 12.04_64bit.
DE starts up without compositing enabled.
No accellerated graphics available somehow.. even though the drivers installed properly.

xinerama enabled and seperate x-screens.

we'd like to use ubuntu on our multi-monitor workspaces, but this bug makes it a quite lacking experience.
