*** buffer overflow detected ***: simple-scan terminated

Asked by Jazz

I use Ubuntu (Desktop) 15.04 and all-in-one network printer Canon Pixma MX870 . When I turn it on, it connects to my network via WiFi automatically and I could use it as a printer without issues. However, right after I start 'simple-scan' (I tried to run it from my terminal window), the GUI window opens up and crashes. This is the output in my terminal:

*** buffer overflow detected ***: simple-scan terminated

The rest of the output is here: http://privatepaste.com/1102310784

When I turn my printer off and try to run simple-scan again, the window doesn't crash this time, it just warns me that there's no available scanner, which is an expected behavior I guess.

Is there any fix for this, so I could use my scanner?

I just tried it. Same behavior with xsane:

*** buffer overflow detected ***: xsane terminated
