cannot mount CIFS from shell: Input/output error

Asked by Andrej on 2013-09-01

I have just made new live USB from Ubuntu 12.04.3 amd64, but I cannot mount cifs from shell, but I can access share point with Nautilus. I was able to make that mount point with live USB Ubuntu 12.04.2 with all the updates. So the only diff I would say was kernel.

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo cat /home/ubuntu/.smbcredentials

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ cat /proc/fs/cifs/cifsFYI

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo mount -a

i suggest you report a bug

The error code -5 is rather generic, but it usually points to a configuration mismatch. You should make sure the settings are all correct. If they are use hostnames, not IPs. An make sure the hostnames match on both sides.

Thank you for the answers. I made a bug report, because I was not able to find anything usefull on the internet and configuration is copy/paste from previous USB key.

Can you help with this problem?
