crome as default (natty)

Asked by quantenemitter on 2011-01-19

Hi there,
I use ubuntu natty (gnome, not unity) and google chrome (not -ium). I'd like to use chrome as my default browser.

At the moment firefox is opened, whenever I click at an url (outside of chrome).

What I've tried:

$ sudo update-alternatives --config x-www-browser
 Auswahl Pfad Priorität Status
------------------------------------------------------------
* 0 /usr/bin/google-chrome 200 Auto-Modus
  1 /usr/bin/firefox 40 manueller Modus
  2 /usr/bin/google-chrome 200 manueller Modus

In "system" → "settings" → "default applications" → "web browser" firefox is the only choice.

Thank you for your ideas!

(Please don't start a flamewar about chrome or unity)

I suggest you contribute to or log a new bug. Natty is Only just Alpha1 so will have hundreds of bugs and functionality holes.

Natty is NOT ready and NOT stable so if you want an OS which acts as you expect then you should install Maverick or Lucid. If you want to log bugs and have a semi-working OS to help contribute to the development then stick with Natty.

I don't complain about bugs (I know what's the meaning of "alpha".). I assume this bug has already been posted (see above). I'm asking about ideas how to fix it. If a solution is found, it can be posted as a bug comment. I don't see no use in commenting the bug described above as "I can confirm this bug."

Additionally I don't understand in depth how gnome works. If you assume I ran into the bug above, I'll put it on my watchlist. But it could be something more trivial. That's the reason why I'm asking.

Then the logical place to discuss the issue would be on the bug as it is 100% specific to your issue. Why create a question about a known and confirmed bug? If the community had a fix or workaround, the bug would be closed as solved.

As you may have read, I'm not sure if I stumbled into the bug ("But it could be something more trivial."). Sorry that I seem to be so dumb, but isn't this the right place for people not knowing better? I'm marking this question as "solved" since the bug seems to be the right place for it.
