Chromium Update for 12.04 LTS

Asked by LeAnn

Just wondering if any updates are coming for those still using 12.04 LTS? I do use Chrome, but also use Chromium as well. Thanks for any info.

Interesting detail: Apparently an attempt to build a chromium version 40.* for precise failed in the PPA of the "Canonical Chrome Builds" team https://launchpad.net/~canonical-chromium-builds/+archive/ubuntu/stage/+packages

So it seems to me that they are indeed trying to provide updated versions of the chromium browser, but have failed for whatever reasons. So instead of 40.* there is only 37.* available as latest version in precise.

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser

I have no idea what there could / should be done.

There's unofficial PPA's that someone maintains for Chromium Beta and Dev builds, so I installed the latest Beta build from there which is 41.0.2272.74. It installed and works fine.

I guess I'll go this route until official stable builds for 12.04 are available again.

Chromium haven't been updated for more than half a year now.
So we have to live with more than 350 known security issues (okay not all of them are concerning Linux).

I thought LTS should - at least - provide security updates.
The browser is the biggest gateway for attackers - so it should be always updated.

I'm very disappointed!!

@Manfred: I have found only one ppa for arhmf that is version 43. My ultimate goal is to make webrtc working in chromium. I have tried last official release 37, that also have some issue with webrtc.
Any help will be highly appreciated.

Ongoing problem afaik. I've checked all the repositories (don't waste your tie they mostly outdated) and tried updates from two supposed to work with Precise and neither does. To the best of my knowledge there is still no Chromium update for 12.04.

Can you help with this problem?
