Chromium installed from software center on 14.04 but does not open

Asked by Jo Sharpe

Newly installed 14.04 and would have liked to use Google Chrome but can't get it installed so decided to install Chromium. The icon is there on the launcer but nothing happens when I try to open it, same when I go to dashboard.
This is what terminal says:

W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/chromium-daily/ppa/ubuntu/dists/trusty/main/binary-amd64/Packages 404 Not Found

W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/chromium-daily/ppa/ubuntu/dists/trusty/main/binary-i386/Packages 404 Not Found

I lost Chrome totally when I was using 12.04 hence me reinstalling Ubuntu but with newest release but seems the problem persists. Any suggestions would be great, am not bothered if Chromium or Chrome, because I am not keen on Firefox, it's ugly.

Kind regards

Jo

The chromium daily ppa doesn't support trusty and should be removed

Remove the Chromium Daily PPA as actionparsnip suggested.

Then run these Terminal commands to install Google Chrome if you are using the 64-bit version of Ubuntu 14.04 LTS:

cd

rm google*.deb

wget https://dl.google.com/linux/direct/google-chrome-stable_current_amd64.deb

sudo dpkg -i google-chrome*.deb

sudo DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive apt-get --yes --force-yes -f install
