Chromium freezes laptop while loading favourites

Asked by Raindog Raindog

Hi, I'm not sure if this is appropriate here, being about Google Chromium, but I'm not sure where the problem lies. Everytime I click to view my favourites list, everything freezes for about 30 seconds to 1 minute while loading the list. Nothing else makes the system hang like this. I wondered if there was anything I can do to prevent it, as it's annoying.

Cheers

If you rename the chromium config folder after closing the browser, is it ok then?

I renamed the folder, and still have same problem

If you make a new Ubuntu user and log in as that, is it ok?

Yes, it's fine when I log in with the new Ubuntu user name

Then you have a crazy config somewhere in your user's $HOME causing an issue. The applications themselves are fine. Did you upgrade the OS from a previous version of Ubuntu, or is it a clean install?

I'm not 100% sure. I think this is the one I had to do a clean install on as the upgrade failed, but wouldn't like to say for certain

I don't know if this is relevant, but my renamed Chromium config folder is still there, and also a new 'Chromium' config folder?

You will make a fresh one when you reran the app, this is normal

Shall I delete the old (renamed) config folder, and will this crazy config be somewhere in the Chromium config folder?

Thanks actionparsnip, that solved my question.

I tried removing Chromium and installing Chrome, with the problem remaining. Then I split the rather large YouTube bookmarks folder into 3 folders, and this has virtually removed the symptoms. I may discard Google browsers for a while though, and have set Firefox as default (which works flawlessly, as does Seamonkey, with exact duplicates of my Chromium bookmarks).

Thanks for the information and guidance. I don't rightly know what I'm looking for regarding the bad config setting/s, but the problem has effectively gone.

Cheers,

Rain
