Xubuntu 11.10 asks for default browser and there's only one

Asked by Stephen Morris

This is a variant to question 179551
I have exactly one browser installed, yet when I click on web-browser in the menu, it asks which one.
It offers chromium-browser and other. I choose chromium. Later in chromium, it tell's me it's not the default browser and asks if I want to change it. I say yes. The next session the whole thing starts over.

I tried update-alternatives with this command:
 sudo update-alternatives --config x-www-browser

The error return is:
There is only one alternative in link group x-www-browser: /usr/bin/chromium-browser
Nothing to configure.

Same question as 179551...

I actually opened a bug on this a while back...

#902661 Chromium unsets preferred webbrowser (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/902661)

It contains a work-around for the problem - use XUbuntu system setting to select your default webbrowser (i.e. Chromium) but do NOT set Chromium to default browser in Chromium itself. As a matter of fact, tell Chromium to stop checking whether it's the default or not and let XUbuntu System Settings handle the default selection...

Works for me...

Can you help with this problem?
