System mute does not override adobe flash audio

Asked by Jay Catelli

I have the latest Google Chrome application with Adobe Flash installed. When I mute the system audio and then open a youtube video the video audio still plays. I can mute and unmute the system with no avail. Changing the system audio level does not change the youtube audio level. This is happening under Ubuntu 11.04.

Before reporting this or any other bug in Ubuntu, please read https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs carefully.

Also, it would be a good idea to check for the most common cause of Flash problems in Ubuntu--the presence of multiple, different Flash plugins (which tend to interfere with each other). You can check for this by running:

dpkg -l | egrep 'flash|gnash|swf|lightspark'

Make sure that if there is more than one package listed, the packages listed all correspond to the same Flash plugin (including same version). Please feel free to post the output of that command here for analysis, and please also feel free to request help here if you have any problems running it.

Also, are you running Google Chrome, or are you running Chromium? My recollection is that Google Chrome (but not Chromium) actually contains a Flash implementation, at least on some platforms.

Can you help with this problem?
