too large font for the login and password field at the logon screen

Asked by Matthieu

Hi,
I have the following issue: I run a XPC shuttle P4 3.0 GHz on a Samsung LED TV with a resolution 1920x1080 with a Gforce FX5200 256Mb DDR TV DVI card as livingroom computer. The LED TV is connected using the DVI port.
Everything works fine but at the logon screen happens the following: the font used for the user name is too large for the field , the same is for the password field the round circles are too big.
Is it possible to change the used font size?
Thanks Matthieu

I have pictures that shows the problem.

If you run:

gksudo nvidia-settings

setup the dislpay as you wish then click "Save to X configuration file"

It should then obey that resolution which should make stuff smaller

the best way to do it is to go to
cd /usr/share/gdm/themes/yourlogintheme

and then open the yourlogin.xml
$ gksudo gedit yourlogin.xml

and identify the password fields.... there will be others too such as sessions etc.... change the font size there. REMEMBER to back-up the original file before you edit it....

Thanks for the help.
Wojox answer solved it.

May be actionparsnip answer is ok to but the LED TV uses the option "screen fit" and that may be messes up the correct font size selection.

Thanks again and greetings
Matthieu
