Could you please provide some more information? What model is the laptop and the webcam?

Could you post the output of "lspci" and "lsusb" without quotes? You write the commands one at a time in gnome-terminal which you can launch by for instance pressing Alt F2 and write in gnome-terminal.

HI :)

I would start by using Synaptic Package Manager to install "cheese"
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SwitchingToUbuntu/FromWindows

Then to sort out all the multimedia issues run through
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu
to see if you've already done all that
