how to choose video input in ubuntu 20.04

Asked by Falk Bay

I recently upgraded my system to ubuntu 20.04.
I can no longer access the settings menu, there is no menu displayed.
And the '-d' command line argument isn't honoured, or am I using it wrong?
I'm running 'cheese -d /dev/video3 ' from a terminal but it opens always the default laptop webcam.
The version of cheese I'm running is Cheese 3.34.0.

sudo cheese --device=/dev/video3

Does that work OK?

I just tried it out, it still opens the first input device.

This is how to do it with GUI.
This patch enables the headerbar, which can be used to open preferences.

Someone made a PPA wih this patch, and I can confirm it works. Have a look at the following comment for details.
