Ubuntu 12.04 cheese does not detect cs330 webcam

Asked by Julianloui

I've just installed cheese under Ubuntu 12.04. I can open cheese fine but it wouldn't do anything even though the pull-down menu shows "Take a Photo" as the pre-selected option. I cannot activate any of the (shaded) options shown at the bottom of the cheese window. Ubuntu does not detect my webcam either but the lsusb command reports it correctly. My webcam is a ViewQuest CS330. I'll appreciate help from anyone.

I am happy to report that cheese is bug-free in Ubuntu 12.10.
