I Installed webcam from software center says no device

I installed the webcam from the software center and launched it and this thing came on telling all about it, but then another section came on and said no device found. Is there really a webcam to install? Chris

Can you give the output of:

lsb_release -a; uname -a; lsusb

     You may wish to give this a try it worked for me
Download and install Cheese using the following steps:

    Open a terminal window.
    Type in the following command:

    sudo apt-get install cheese
