After I updated Ubuntu my Dell Integrated webcam stopped working.

Asked by Bluewaveck777 on 2012-10-05

I recently ran update manager and updated my Ubuntu OS. Ever since the Integrated Webcam in my Dell Studio 1535 laptop has stopped being recognized by all programs. Not even cheese can find my webcam.

Hi ,

please open a terminal [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[t] and post more info

post the results of these commands

cat /etc/lsb-release && uname -r

lsusb

dmesg >> dmesg.txt

gedit dmesg.txt

Thanks

Can you also give the output of:

lsusb

Thanks

Have the same laptop model and the same problem. It just started recently and some googling lead me here. The camera seems to work for a limited time after restarting, but then just stop. At the moment, lsusb isn't picking it up, but there is a /dev/video0 entry which cheese complains is busy.

Ok, I thought it was working for a bit after a fresh restart, but restarting right now did not restore it. The device is recognized on boot, however. From syslog:

Can you give the output of:

lsmod
