Webcam in 12.04 beta 1 unstable

My Acer Aspire 5253 laptop (ubuntu 12.04) has a built in webcam and microphone, but no webcam software i download can access it. Youtube on which you can use your webcam to record yourself and publish the video, also cannot recognize it.

I tried putting in a Logitech webcam with USB, but that didn't work either.

Only the external webcam. and in cheese with external webcam, it is very buggy and poor quality, and when I try to open a video in Movie Player my computer crashes

If you run:

LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so cheese

Thanks for the info! The builtin webcam works, but my computer still crashes and goes back to the login menu
