Ubuntu 11.10 doesn't recognize integrated webcam

Asked by Laura Glick

I'm running ubuntu 11.10 on a Dell XPS M1530. The shotwell program doesn't recognize that I have an integrated webcam in the laptop despite the computer taking my picture for login during the installation process. I'm sure there is more information I need to give in order to get help, but I don't know what. Any help is appreciated.

Hi Laura,

Thanks for reporting this. I have a few questions to help debug this:

What version of Shotwell are you running?
Are you taking photos using your webcam and subsequently those photos do not appear in Shotwell?

Laura,

In re-reading this, I want to clarify that Shotwell does not support tethered shooting. In other words, Shotwell will not automatically recognize your camera and capture images directly as you're taking photos. This has been requested by our users and you can see that we have a feature request open upstream:

Can you help with this problem?
