with skype and gtalk camera issues. upside down and staying on.

Asked by Whitney James

Laptop: ASUS P50IJ
Camera: USB2.0 UVC VGA WebCam (/dev/video0)
The camera works perfectly in Cheese. The image is upright and the camera shuts off when the application is closed (light goes off next to lens). However, while using Skype and also Google Talk Plugin (which activates while using Gmail in either Firefox or Chrome), the camera input image is inverted. Additionally, after either application closes, the camera stays persistently on, only going off during a restart or shutdown.

I tried a terminal fix regarding lib4l suggested by another user, but only received error messages that the path couldn't be found, and then Skype wouldn't launch. I uninstalled/reinstalled Skype, and it would now launch (but, with the same camera issues).

Happily, everything else seems to work "out of the box," even the keyboard shortcuts to volume, screen brightness, and the calculator.

uvcvideo is the driver used. We need to see if the driver has a flip option

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libv4l/ppa; sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get -y upgrade

Not sure what else is to be done, maybe the forum can help
