Do you mean your own webcam, or other users webcams?

Do you mean YOUR webcam or someone elses' webcam?

If your webcam: What is the make and model of your webcam? What exactly have you downloaded? Have you tried the app called: Cheese?

If someone elses' webcam what program are you trying to use?

I had to go to cheese web-cam booth to make my cam come up on my screen.I can see my image and take pics of myself, but can't broadcast,or receive from other cams.Being new to ubuntu,I'm confused.I wanted to talk in real time with my brother on yahoo.I went to ubuntu software center, and downloaded everything I could find on yahoo,{thinking it was a windows problem},and I'm still not getting anywhere.I'm using an imicro 027 cam.

You can use gyache to chat on yahoo with cam. There may be a PPA for it still but it may be a pain. The fact that it works in cheese is a good sign :)

So... your webcam works. The problem is with talking via the webcam to someone on Yahoo! It is possible IN THEORY but not it's not very workable IN PRACTICE through, I think, Gyache.

Other alternatives:
1) Does your brother have Skype. Skype for Windows and Skype for Linux can talk together.
2) If you want something very simple, go to Ubiqq.com. You only need to pass on the unique URL through an IM application...
