Sony Vaio VGN-CR21Z/R internal Webcam not working in Linux Ubuntu 10.10

Asked by Rupul Chatterjee

 Hello,

I've just installed Ubuntu 10.10 and so far I'm enjoying it as my first Ubuntu experience. However when I click the Webcam and the preferences like Cheese Webcam Booth to turn it on, nothing happens... I only get an error message as 'No Device Found'.

Please help ........

This is a very uncooperative device that does not follow standard protocol like many hardware Sony uses.
There is a source code driver which is not developed anymore and you would have to compile on your own.
This might be beyond the scope of a new user.
I can not even guarantee it will word with a recent Ubuntu kernel.
