Cannot get microsoft lifecam vx-700 to work in Ubuntu

Asked by Jill Phillips

I cannot get my Microsoft LifeCam VX-700 to work in Ubuntu. My son bought if for me for Christmas so we can keep in touch while he is in US.

I get a green light on the webcam for a few seconds when I plug it in then it goes off, never to return. A mic plugged into the mic socket works fine. I have a basic understanding of computers so any suggestions in every day language would be welcome.

My son installed Ubuntu before he went away and I do not know where to find anything, like device managers etc. now.

I am using an HP550 laptop.

Hello Jill,

go to <System> <Administration> and search for Synaptic Package Manager, open it and type "cheese" without the quotes and install.

I hope this helps!
