How to webcam and em to work on

my webcam workes on skype in MS Windows XP. how do I get it to work on ubuntu linux.? I am new to linux.

Can you run the program "cheese" (you may need to install it), and confirm whether or not your camera is working there?

Well, to use skype, you need to install it, yes.

If your other user is using a SIP, XMPP or Gtalk (which is just XMPP) client, then you can use empathy.

If you have a question, please create a new question. Cheese works on most webcams, but not all. It is not cheese that determines this, but rather whether there is a driver available for your device .
