Can you see yourself if you run the program "Cheese"? (you may need to install it first)

If not, post the result of the following:
please disconnect your camera, then reconnect it, wait a few seconds Then run the following command run from a terminal (applications->accessories->terminal).

lsusb; dmsg | tail -n 100;

Also post the make and model of the camera.

which logitech webcam are you using?

if it is the Quickcam Communicate Deluxe, it seems to not work on specific usb ports. try plugging it into another port to see if it works. if it still doesn't, get a different cam.
