What is a 'sister program' and in what way would it monitor the mic?

First off, I'm not a programmer and don't know a lot about the mechanics of Linux. From what I can tell the cameramonitor process checks something every few seconds for camera activity and if it detects it then the icon comes up. Can microphone activity be detected in a similar way? If it can then either a program based on the same code, or perhaps an option within cameramonitor itself to do so.

Who said anything about being a programmer? Why are you talking about being a programmer or not. Its nothing to do with this issue in any way. Makes absolutely zero sense. I'm not a sound engineer but I can advise on sound issues under Linux.....so what?

So you want an application that will record when a sound is detected? Is this the requirement?

Sorry if I offended you.

cameramonitor pop ups an icon when the computer's camera is activated. I was wondering about the possibility of wither a separate program, or the functionality added to this program to pop up an icon when the microphone is activated.

Not offended. Just don't understand why people bleat "i'm not a programmer" every second they can. It's mind boggling.

Just a preemptive strike on the usual "write it yourself".

as for the link, I don't want a utility that records anything, I'm looking for what cameramonitor does, but for the microphone. It just indicates when a program activates it. It may not be possible. I don't know (not being a programmer) if the microphone is accessed in a similar way the camera is.

Can you help with this problem?
