Calibre doesn't recognize my new kindle

Asked by Matias Borra

Hi. I'm trying to connect my new Kindle E-reader (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ZV9PXP2/ref=cm_sw_r_wa_awdb_JG1KybFVW1752) on my Ubuntu 16.10 laptop, but the device does not appear in Calibre after plugged in via USB.

I can see it plugged through the file manager and can copy files manually into it.

Is there any compatibility issue with this device?

I don't have this problem with my old Kindle 4, which work perfect.

Thanks, Matías.

Reboot the PC and log in. Let the system settle for a few seconds. Connect the Kindle and wait a few seconds. Open a terminal and run:

dmesg | tail; lsusb; lsb_release -a; uname -a

What is the full output please?

Here is the issue:

unmounted. Some data may be corrupt. Please run fsck.

When you unplug the device, you need to tell the OS that you are going to do so. If you just unplug it randomly then the file system is left in a "dirty" state and Ubuntu won't touch it.

The device is compatible, you just aren't treating your device correctly and so it's misbehaving.

Do you use the Kindle in a Windows PC?

I ran fsck and after that I re-ran "dmesg | tail; lsusb; lsb_release -a; uname -a". Seems to be no errors. Calibre still not recognize the device. I re-ran the Welcome Assistant and was not detected.

If you safe remove the device from the system then reboot. Does it work OK?
