How to use ebook-convert standalone?

Asked by Vlastimil Slinták

I would like to use ebook-convert in my Python script. But, I do not want to install whole Calibre. Is there any deb package, which contains only this part of Calibre?

Is it possible to use ebook-convert standalone, without installing Calibre?

The ebook-connvert utility uses most of calibre's functionality--only a few components, such as the graphical frontend, are not potentially used in a run of ebook-convert. Therefore, there is probably little benefit associated with installing only ebook-convert and the other calibre components on which it depends, rather than all of calibre. When installing from source (see, there is no option to do this (installation options can be listed by running "python install -h"). You could probably create a derivative of calibre that provides this, but for the above reasons, it's likely you'd find the effort to do so unworthwhile.
