How to use ebook-convert standalone?

Asked by Vlastimil Slinták

Hello,

I would like to use ebook-convert in my Python script. But, I do not want to install whole Calibre. Is there any deb package, which contains only this part of Calibre?

Is it possible to use ebook-convert standalone, without installing Calibre?

The ebook-connvert utility uses most of calibre's functionality--only a few components, such as the graphical frontend, are not potentially used in a run of ebook-convert. Therefore, there is probably little benefit associated with installing only ebook-convert and the other calibre components on which it depends, rather than all of calibre. When installing from source (see http://calibre-ebook.com/download_linux), there is no option to do this (installation options can be listed by running "python setup.py install -h"). You could probably create a derivative of calibre that provides this, but for the above reasons, it's likely you'd find the effort to do so unworthwhile.
