I suggest you report a bug. If the security and bug fixes are significant then it will be updated. Just because a new stable is out does not get the package updated. If the version in the repository is without issue then the version will stand.

This is especially true in the LTS releases where stability is champion and changes are few. Ubuntu will frequently not be bang up to date due to its target audience.
