How to install a Brother MFC-5460CN printer?

Asked by Peter Breed

I have just started using UBUNTU for the first time yesterday and am using a dual boot system with windows XP. Everything seems to be working well except that I can't print out anything. How do I make the programme see my brother MFC-5460CN printer and scanner please? Thank you for any replies but I dont understand how to set up the printer yet.
Thank You
Peter Breed

At first goto the Terminal:
Applications → Accessories → Terminal
and enter:
sudo apt-get install brother-cups-wrapper-bh7
and enter your password. This will install a driver for your printer.
Now if the printer is USB connected reconnect it. If it is network connected follow the section "Ubuntu Client Computer" in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/NetworkPrintingWithUbuntu and tell us what happens.

Thank you for your help Thomas. I typed what you suggested in last night but the printer still didn't work. When I tried again tonight I found that when I tried to type the password in that nothing would appear on the screen. I had also been trying all the Brother printers in the list last night but when I had another look at the list tonight I found that my printer is now in the list so have used it and successfully printed out your message to me. Am very pleased. Will have to see if I can scan a page and send a fax soon. Thank You very much for your quick response Thomas.
