Start Screensaver? Lock screen!

Asked by Fredrik Jacobsson

Shouldn't "Start Screensaver" be changed to "Lock Screen"? Because that's what it does and the reason why I don't use that function. Pretty annoying when the mouse pointer happens to get to that corner and you have to enter a intricate password in the dark. I'm using a nonilluminated wireless keyboard and a trackball (where hitting those corners are pretty darn easy)

What I really want is an option just to start the screen saver without locking it

You could read the man page for whatever screen saver you are using (gnome-screensaver and xscreensaver are common) to see the command to "test" a screensaver from command line. Once you have this, you can make a launcher to run the script and put it in /usr/share/applications and it will appear in Dash and you can launch it like any other application

Can you help with this problem?
