Burn .mdf image

I need burn .mdf image and I were looking for this. I get the mdf2iso utility and this tool tells me that is iso file format, then I rename it to .iso and I burn it sucessfuly. Can Brasero support this type of image and does it use mdf2iso utility when does it need?
