Brasero Video DVD problems, and possibly a solution?
I'm new to Linux and also Ubuntu, but I'm very experienced in making Video DVD's. I've read many of the posts and threads about the problem with Brasero here and elsewhere, and everyone, including myself, is having the same issues.
Some of the posters do not understand that you can make a DVD by copying the file and burning it, and it will play on the computer, but if you put it in a DVD player it will not work. they think they have made a Video DVD but have not. I sell real estate, specifically farms, farmettes, and rural land. About 8 years ago started making vcd videos of my farm/farmette listings to send out to buyers, and about 6 years ago changed to DVD's. What I burn must work with stand alone DVD players. In windows machines, the burning programs which came with each machine did the job satisfactorily. I played with a few other free DVD burning programs and ultimately decided that what is involved in making a Video DVD needed good software written by a professional. I am not in anyway saying the folks who have written Brasero are not professionals. I'm speaking of the free programs I tried in windows.
I've spent a good bit of time trying to find a replacement for Brasero in Linux. Supposedly there is a way to make Video DVD's in K3b. I tried it without success. But in my searching I did run across the fact that Nero now has a burning program for Linux. It isn't free, but also they have it priced at $24.99, which seems very reasonable compared to Windows burning software. I have not tried it yet. But this is the first time I've seen any major software company offer a Linux program. Hopefully this program will help those of us who need to burn Video DVD's move further from the Windows platform until Brasero is completely functional.
