How to burn a video DVD from video_ts folder?

Asked by Lee

I have unencrypted DVD video in a VIDEO_TS folder. Is there a way to directly burn this in Brasero? I can do it in K3B, but I don't like using KDE apps if possible.

I would like to know that too. In windows there is a program called Magic DVD Copier. It will run in Codeweavers for Ubuntu but I would like to find a native Linux app for this.

thats odd. it is my understanding that you can burn VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS directly with Brasero.

The Brasero in 8.04 has a DVD video option, but that option does not accept a directory as the parameter and that makes me suspect it would not accept raw VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS dirs, but would simply make a data-DVD containing the files. I didn't try it; don't feel like spending the hour to let the burn go through only to discover I'd wasted another DVD-R. To make matters more suspicious, the help pages for Brasero do not even mention the Video Project option

If the Video Project is the correct command, can someone please explain the sequence that will take the VIDEO_TS AUDIO_TS dirs and create a playable DVD?

here is the best answer:

sudo aptitude purge brasero

and then follow the process on
http://johnbokma.com/mexit/2008/11/28/burning-vob-bup-ifo-to-dvd.html
which basically says "mkisofs -dvd-video -o dvdimage.iso SOURCEDIR/" to create an iso file, and then use growisofs or gnomebaker or whatever else to burn the iso file to the DVD; I would add that you should burn at the slowest possible speed if you expect to play this on the widest variety of DVD players.

it turns out brasero has numerous critical flaws, this is just another; one writer called it "Hardy's bad idea"

I disagree with teledyn's answer. Brasero is fully capable of burning VIDEO_TS sources, and it's as straightforward as can be.
http://www.gnomefiles.org/app.php/Brasero

1. Open Brasero.
2. Select "Burn Data DVD"
3. Drag VIDEO_TS to the directory. Do the same if you have an AUDIO_TS directory, and if not, I'd recommend creating an empty AUDIO_TS directory just in case, and dragging it onto the disc. I've heard it suggested that you may need to have it even if it's empty.
4. Burn.

I started second guessing this, and just tested this with Brasero 2.28.2 but I'm sure I've used this with several previous versions. Plays in a regular DVD player, menus included, no problems that I could see.

Can you help with this problem?
