Brasero says file.avi "is not suitable for audio or video media"

Ubuntu Studio 14.04, brasero 3.10.0

Want to create DVD from avi file, getting error message 'file.avi is not suitable for audio or video media'

I can play encrypted DVDs and restricted extras are installed.

Thankful for any and all input on why this does not work. Now trying the same task with DeVeDe. If Brasero cannot do encoding, why doesn't it say so?

Yes, I tried DeVeDe and it works.

Ditching Brasero for that kind of work.
