when you try to burn media files in brasero and if that particular program can't conver it into VCD or DVD media format, it asks for the installation of a plugin automatically. (mine asked me to install a plugin to burn mp4 files as a DVD player readable media.). just install the plugin and go ahead. you can also try using K3B burner. It's a lot better than brasero.

Has your file come from itunes? Itunes used to ship encrypted AAC files which were labelled as "m4p"; if so you will need to decrypt them before any program can read them (including itunes...)

I can not also burn .mpg files with both brasero and K3b

Can you help with this problem?
