brasero consisantly reports empty [blanked] DVD-RW "not enough space": [?]

Asked by Gary Kline

I have been using two tools to blank/format and write .ISO files. K3B seems to work most of the time but brasero still seems to behave inconsistently. Hopefully someone here will clue me in. I tried to blank a DVD-RW using the Tools->blank feature. I did this more than once. When I tried to burn, brascero yelped that there wasn't enough space. There should have be 4.4GB free. I am new to using this utility as a burner, so I will appreciate any insights.

(The DVD may be bad, but it is a Memorex [brand-name]. I will try again to burn with k3b.)

Did you MD5 test the ISO?
Personally i have never had luck with brasero. I recommend gnomebaker as it doesn't need all the Qt deps which k3b pulls in

The MD5 did nothing because after blanking, there was no data! Anyway, long-story-short, looks like the DVD was bad. I burned the ISO and had k3b checksum the results. This was on a new or else reformatted disc.

So "Problem Solved".

thanks.

You md5 test the iso before burning so you can blank all the disks you want. If the iso is bad it will make a bad disk. Please md5 test your iso so you know it is good and therefore remove bad media as a cause of future install issues.
Thanks
