BOINC version in Karmic is NOT 6.6.41

Asked by MC707

The version in Karmic (and in Jaunty) is 6.4.5, which was made obsolete in 4th december 2008, almost a year ago. 6.6.41 came out that date, but no one has updated the repos with the new version. Doesn't anybody care about BOINC in ubuntu any more? The old version doesn't have the capability to use the GFX card to crunch, which is totally unacceptable. I hope somebody that is responsible will update BOINC. Thanks to anyone that helps here, I am definitely not the only that's going to be benefited by this.

Ubuntu gets its boinc package from Debian, and Debian is stuck at version 6.4.5. There are some problems with the maintenance in Debian, discussed at http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=511243. There's also a request to update the package in Ubuntu (bug 452213), but the package is community-supported, so it might take a while until someone jumps in and does it.

Yes, bug 452213 is the big problem. I can't believe this package has been kept outdated for SO long, its amazing. -_-

Backports should show up shortly in my PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~blueyed/+archive/boinc

Otherwise, you'd have to request a backport (via "Ubuntu Backports").

Apart from that, this is no question really, so please close it.

Thanks.
