Bluetooth disabled

Asked by Suraj Nair

I'm running Ubuntu 11.10 and I while the bluetooth seems to turn on and off perfectly well [it shows on the status bar], when I open the default Bluetooth preferences it says 'bluetooth disabled'.
So, I can't receive [because I can't change my visibility!] or send files!
All, I can do is turn on/off the bluetooth!!!
Please help!
I ran lsusb to get:

Is the system a desktop or laptop?
Does it have a make and model?

It's a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop.
It's currently on Dual-boot with Windows Vista.
But, the Ubuntu installation isn't on a separate partition.

I checked out the link, but clearly my problem is different.

Bus 003 Device 017: ID 0a5c:4500 Broadcom Corp. BCM2046B1 USB 2.0 Hub (part of BCM2046 Bluetooth)

Clearly, my bluetooth device has been detected. Also, from the bluetooth icon on the top right of my desktop, I can choose to turn it on or off. The problem is that, when I try to go to the preferences to make ANY changes such as visibility, pairing etc, it says (within the preferences dialog) that bluetooth is disabled.

I tried using other bluetooth managers etc from the software center, but to no avail.
They don't even work as bluetooth is disabled.
Also, when I use the wireless&bluetooth on/off hotkey, the bluetooth icon does correspondingly change to the ON/OFF position!

Nevertheless, I tried the suggestions given in the other post, but they don't seem to work for me either!

Can you help with this problem?
