bleachbit package

need a disk clean program for ubuntu 9.10

I am new to Ubuntu, it was installed by a shop tech. about 6 months ago, and my PC is now getting slower, so what I am asking for is a safe porgram like windows has to run a disk type clean.
Any help would be great.

Disk cleaning generally does not make a computer faster. There are a few exceptions such as (1) BleachBit vacuuming for Firefox may improve performance if the URL database is very fragmented or (2) the speed of backups. You may want to
1. Use a SMART tool to diagnose any errors on the hard drive
2. Use the Gnome System Monitor to check for any background programs eating up the CPU or disk I/O
