installing cursors

I've installed cursors from packet manager but I need large black cursor to see it, have vision issue, I choose cursor and make it large but its only large in some windows but not on the desktop where I could really use it to find it to dtart
.
Iv downloaded cursors from gnome-look.org, I extracted them but I cannot access them
Can anyone help

Lori,

Are you using Compiz currently? I know that Compiz can affect mouse pointers for some reason. System / Preferences / Appearance - Visual Effects tab - if you set it to None, do your mouse pointers work?

I set it back to none and the pointer works great I get the large black
