Thinking about porting the code to python along with some updates. Plans to update?

I have been entertaining the idea of porting the package from PERL to Python along with some updates. Also there is a somewhat newer version 3.2 versus what what is currently in Universe, 3.0. Are there plans to update the package with the current version.
