I need the proper reference

I got a reference for bash but I need the command language reference for gnome. Also my ubuntu visual (the dots) have changed and I want to get back to the visual graphic when the system is coming up. Can someone help.(The ubuntu graphic has the dots that light up accross the screen and now I get a black and white icon instead- I want the original graphic representation on boot up- I don't know how to get this back).
