Why does Banshee have a ".exe" extension on Ubuntu?

Asked by Ryan Kitty

I am curious as to why the Linux version of Banshee has a ".exe" extension, when it is not running the Windows version, or even running in WINE, for that fact. (Bug #707818)

Means that banshee was developer in C# (a native windows programming language) so if you want to compile and run your C# applications needs a external software in Linux, mono in this case so that's all. maybe I forgot to mention many details but like a general overview is just that.

e.g. regarding mono, same with Tomboy (/usr/lib/tomboy/Tomboy.exe).
